Navneet Rana missing from court hearing citing illness

Mumbai: BJP leader and accused Navneet Rana did not appear in the case registered after the controversy over reciting Hanuman Chalisa in front of former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's residence, citing illness. However, her husband and Amravati MLA Ravi Rana was present. The court has fixed the hearing on July 2.

Recently, the court rejected the plea of the Rana couple for acquittal in the 2022 Hanuman Chalisa case. In 2022, a case was registered against Amravati independent MP Navneeti Rana and MLA husband Ravi Rana for obstructing a government employee from performing his duty when he protested against his arrest.

The Rana couple had announced to recite Hanuman Chalisa outside the private residence of the then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in Bandra. After this, the police took action and arrested them. The special court rejected the couple's plea for acquittal. The court said that there is sufficient evidence against both of them.

The Rana couple has filed a review petition in the High Court. The couple is currently on bail. It is worth noting that Navneet Rana lost the current Lok Sabha elections.
