Ahmedabad, August 4 (HS). Under the 'Hamara Dang, Prakritik Dang' campaign, the tribal area of the state, Dang, was declared a district with complete natural farming in the year 2021. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started intensive efforts to increase the prevalence of natural farming and in this year's Union Budget, it has been announced to bring one crore farmers under natural farming across the country.
Due to the efforts of the Government of Gujarat, the prevalence of natural farming is increasing in the state today. After Dang was declared a natural farming district, remarkable results have been seen in the lives of the youth associated with farming here. The success story of Rajubhai Sahar, who lives in Galkund village of Ahwa tehsil, the district headquarters, shows the success of natural farming. 40-year-old Rajubhai Budhabhai Sahar started horticultural farming with a scientific approach after getting training from the Horticulture Department. In the year 2021, he earned an income of Rs 55 thousand by sowing bitter gourd in 2 hectares of area, in which he got a profit of Rs 40 thousand. Due to good yield in natural farming, he started planting different crops and in the year 2023-24, he earned an income of Rs 4 lakh 40 thousand by sowing chilli, bitter gourd, tomato and broccoli through mulching and drip irrigation method. Within three years, his income has increased by 700 percent.
Sharing his experience of farming through natural method, Rajubhai says that this method is giving good yield. We sow crops like bitter gourd, tomato, jackfruit, paddy etc. according to the season. Broccoli is not very popular among the people of Dang, but I used it. Last year I sowed 7 thousand strawberry plants and I got 100 percent profit in it. This year I have sown 25 thousand strawberry plants.
Rajubhai said that there are four brothers in his family who are doing natural farming. Rajubhai has two elder daughters and a son who are currently studying. Regarding the assistance received from the government, he said that we get subsidy from the Horticulture Department. We get both the necessary training and assistance from the officials. The Horticulture Department provides assistance for raw canopy, seeds, plastic covers, packing materials and mango saplings.
The government has made provision for training and assistance to encourage farmers towards natural farming. Natural farming is being widely promoted among farmers in the state and as a result, farmers are now turning towards natural farming. An assistance of Rs 1,603 lakh has been given to farmers engaged in natural farming in three years during the year 2023-24.
