In view of this, Aam Aadmi Party's Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha has demanded to allocate a government residence for him. He has said that the party's national convener Arvind Kejriwal should be allotted a government residence by the central government to continue his work easily.
Presidents of three national parties got bungalows
It has been a tradition for the central government to provide houses to national party presidents in New Delhi. Presidents of Congress, BJP and many other parties have also been given houses. Even now, presidents of three national parties have been given bungalows. Aam Aadmi Party is also one of the six national parties in the country at present.
An office will be allotted to the party
According to information on the website of the Ministry of Urban Development, houses are allotted not only to national party presidents but also to party offices. Political parties recognised as national parties by the Election Commission of India are allotted houses from a common pool in Delhi. For this, the party has to pay a license fee. However, this allotment is only for three years. In the meantime, the party has to mark a place for itself and build its office.
National party president will get accommodation in Delhi
It is said in the same website that the president of a recognized national party will also be allotted a house in Delhi. The condition for this is that the president should neither have his own house nor any other house allotted by the government. As far as Arvind Kejriwal is concerned, he is also an MLA from Delhi. Therefore, the Delhi government can also allot him a house but according to the rules, he will get a small house as an MLA. Also, he can be allotted a bungalow as the president of a national party.
Provision for allotment of residences and offices in Delhi
There is also a provision to allot accommodation and office to state level parties in Delhi. State level parties recognized by the Election Commission are allotted accommodation on the recommendation of the Cabinet's Housing Committee and the number of its members in both the Houses of Parliament. Such parties must have seven members in both the Houses of Parliament for allotment. For office, these parties have been allotted office and accommodation in Vitthalbhai Patel House itself. They are given a double suite as accommodation.
Allotment of residences to Union Ministers and MPs
As far as housing allocation for Union Ministers and MPs is concerned, they are provided housing in Lutyens Zone of Delhi. For this, the General Pool Residential Accommodation Act is followed. Its responsibility lies with the Directorate of Status of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Different types of housing are available in Delhi based on the seniority of MPs and ministers. In these, bungalow accommodation ranging from Type-6 to Type-8 is provided to Union Ministers, State Ministers and MPs.
Accommodation in the State Capital on the basis of seniority
First-time elected MPs will get Type-5 accommodation. If an MP is elected more times, he or she can also be allotted Type-6 or Type-7 bungalows. Type-8 bungalows are allotted to cabinet ministers and very senior MPs. MLAs are provided different types of accommodation by the government based on their seniority in their state capital.
