He said due to the AAP government's laxity, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has put at least three projects worth over Rs 3,000 crore on hold as the developers were almost two years behind in handing over the project, they were not even able to start work after a year. The affected projects include key connectivity links like the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway.
Bajwa, citing a news report, said that more than three dozen national highway projects in Punjab have faced major hurdles in land acquisition. Out of the 38 highway projects currently underway in Punjab, at least 30 projects worth more than Rs 42,000 crore are either stalled or moving at a slow pace.
He said the central government has sanctioned the funds but the Punjab government has not disbursed any amount to the land owners. Bajwa said out of Rs 2,624 crore sanctioned by the Centre, Rs 749.67 crore has still not been distributed among the owners whose land will be acquired for the projects.
The opposition leader said that Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari had held a meeting on the same issue last Monday and he has given a deadline of two months to the Punjab government to resolve all the problems of the land owners and start the projects.
