Bhopal, 26 October (HS). Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Prahlad Singh Patel on Saturday unveiled the statue of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi installed at Press Barman intersection in Kareli of Narsinghpur district. The program was presided over by Dr. Rajkumar Acharya, Vice Chancellor of Awadhesh Pratap Singh University, Rewa. In the program, former Rajya Sabha MP Kailash Soni, MLA Vishwanath Singh Patail, MLA Mahendra Nagesh, former Minister of State Jalamsingh Patel, former MLA Sunil Jaiswal, former District Panchayat President Devendra Singh Patail, Municipal Corporation President Kareli Sushila Mamar and Vice President Anita Nema and other public representatives, Press Council Kareli. President, Secretary, other members and distinguished citizens, councilors, journalists were present.
The program started with the unveiling of the statue of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi and lighting of the lamp. After which all the guests met former Prime Minister Late. Wreaths were placed on the statue of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
On this occasion, Minister Prahlad Singh Patel said that Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi was a revolutionary journalist and he is considered the main pillar of Hindi journalism. He was such a name in the world of journalism, whose writings even the British government was afraid of. He struggled throughout his life to get the rights of farmers and laborers and was also active in the freedom movement. He was an alert journalist of Indian history, a patriot, a social worker and an active activist of the freedom struggle. Today the program of unveiling his statue is to remember the remarkable work done by him.
Minister Patel said that the disease of a person is told by the doctor and the disease of the society is told by the journalist. A journalist assesses the weakness of the society and thinks of its solution. The way the doctor gives us information about the disease, we do not feel bad. In the same way, one should not take offense to the words of those who criticize the society. Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi has done this work with impunity. There is a need to follow his footsteps. His lifestyle is exemplary even today. He was not afraid of the challenges in his life. Taught the lesson of possibility of all religions. I pay my respects to him on his birth anniversary and congratulate Press Council Kareli for organizing this event.
He said that when I got the invitation for this program, I had said that I will definitely come to this program. Journalist colleagues have talked about building a journalist building in Kareli. Funds for Patrakar Bhavan will be provided from MLA fund. He was thanked by his journalist colleagues.
Former Rajya Sabha MP Kailash Soni congratulated everyone for this program and said that Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi's life was dedicated to the society and the nation. He tried to awaken national consciousness through his writings. The statue of India's greatest journalist has been installed in Kareli. The young generation will be able to know about his works. He sacrificed his life in the communal riots in Kanpur, thereby maintaining social harmony. Kareli has its own distinct identity. The journalists here have done a great job of presenting the views of the common man. This work should continue in future also.
Vice Chancellor of Awadhesh Pratap Singh University, Dr. Acharya said that intellectual and cultural programs in Kareli are organized in a very systematic and planned manner. I pay tribute to Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi, who dedicated his life to journalism as well as society on his birth anniversary. Vidyarthi worked with litterateurs like Mahavir Prasad Dwivedi, who gave direction to cultural consciousness through his literary works.
In the program, mementos were presented to the guests by Kareli Press Council. The program was also addressed by MLA Vishwanath Singh Patail, MLA Mahendra Nagesh, Municipal Councilor Sushila Mamar, former MLA Sunil Jaiswal, former District Panchayat President Devendra Patel. The program was conducted by journalist Ashish Aggarwal and vote of thanks was conducted by Manoj Lunawat.
