Dehradun, July 22 (HS). In Rajya Sabha on Monday, BJP member Naresh Bansal compared the efforts made to restore democracy during the Emergency with the struggle in the freedom struggle and demanded inclusion of the history of this period in the curriculum of schools and colleges.
Raising this issue during the Zero Hour of Rajya Sabha, Naresh Bansal said that this essential subject should be included in the syllabus of schools and colleges. Describing the Emergency as a dark chapter of Indian democracy, he said that it can never be forgotten. At that time, the protectors themselves became predators. Bansal said that the Emergency lasted for 21 months, during which civil liberties were violated, dissent was suppressed and democratic principles were violated. Along with this, thousands of people were put in jail without giving any reason. He said that many people sacrificed their lives to save democracy. Bansal said that a chapter explaining the excesses committed during the Emergency in 1975-77 in the country and the fight made by those opposing the suppression should be included in the syllabus of schools and colleges.
