Nand Gopal Gupta 'Nandi'

Kanpur, 09 August (HS). To warn the autocratic British rule and to collect money, the freedom fighters took the first big action in Kakori. This incident of taking over the government treasury is famous as the Kakori incident. This incident shook the foundation of the British government. In response, the British government made arrests on a large scale and after preliminary investigation, the revolutionaries were prosecuted. The British government was so afraid of the Kakori revolutionaries that it kept the revolutionaries in different jails of the state. These things were said by the cabinet minister of the Uttar Pradesh government Nand Gopal Gupta 'Nandi' who reached Kanpur on Friday.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Kakori train incident, a district level program of Kakori Train Action Centenary Celebration was organized at Nanarao Peshwa Memorial Park, Bithoor. The program was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by Nand Gopal Gupta 'Nandi', Minister of Industrial Development, Export Promotion, NRI and Investment Promotion Department of Uttar Pradesh Government. The minister said that the Kakori incident is very important among many historical events related to India's freedom movement. The freedom-loving revolutionary youth were determined to free Mother India from the slavery of the British. To fulfill this objective, revolutionary youth like Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad, Shaheed Pandit Ramprasad Bismil, Shaheed Thakur Roshan Singh, Shaheed Ashfaqulla Khan, Shaheed Rajendra Nath Lahiri etc. established the Hindustan Republican Association in October 1924 after an All India Conference. Its objective was to overthrow the colonial power through armed revolution and establish a federal republic, the United States of India.

For this, money was needed and the revolutionaries decided to capture the treasury of the British government. On 09 August 1925, the 8-down train coming from Shahjahanpur to Lucknow was stopped near Kakori and the revolutionaries captured the treasury of the British government. After this, the British arrested the revolutionaries and put them in jail and on 6 April 1927, Session Judge Hamilton sentenced Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil, Rajendra Nath Lahiri and Roshan Singh to death, Sachindra Nath Sanyal to life imprisonment, Manmath Nath Gupta to 14 years, Jogesh Chandra Chatterjee, Mukundi Lal, Govind Charan, Rajkumar Sinha, Ramakrishna Khatri to 10 years, Vishnu Sharad Dublish, Suresh Chandra Bhattacharya to 7 years, Bhupendra Nath Sanyal, Ramdulare Trivedi, Prem Krishna Khanna, Banwari Lal, Pranavesh Kumar Chatterjee and Ramnath Pandey to 5 years imprisonment. In the supplementary trial, Ashfaqulla Khan was sentenced to death and Sachindranath Bakshi was sentenced to life imprisonment. The British government could not arrest Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad alive.

MLA Abhijeet Singh Sanga said that Kanpur is a land of historical, mythological and revolutionary figures. Nanarao Saheb, Tatya Tope, Azimullah Khan and Ajijanbai played key roles in Kanpur. He said that Kanpur was one of the sites of the 1857 freedom struggle, Kanpur has played an important role in the revolution. In the program, the family members of freedom fighters were honored by giving them robes and symbols. Hari Ram Gupta, Satyendra Kumar Sinha, Ramkumar Singh, Joginder Singh Bajwa, Anil Tripathi, Mrigank Shekhar Anand, Chandrabhan Singh, Shanirao Moghe, Ram Dulare Gupta, Suman Dixit etc. were present during this time. Mayor Pramila Pandey, District Panchayat President Swapnil Varun, MLA Mahesh Trivedi, Saroj Kuril, Police Commissioner Akhil Kumar, District Magistrate Rakesh Kumar Singh, Chief Development Officer Diksha Jain, Additional District Magistrate (V/R) Rajesh Kumar, Joint Magistrate Prakhar Kumar Singh etc. were present during this time.
