Nana Patekar: Heart’s heartbeat stopped due to disturbance in electrical system and cardiac arrest

The sudden demise of Nana Patekar, the great and outspoken actor of Indian cinema, has shocked the entire country. After his health suddenly deteriorated at his residence in Goa, he was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Meanwhile, medical experts and hospital sources have revealed the real medical reasons of his demise, which reveal what kind of serious technical and biological disturbance suddenly occurred in the internal functioning of his heart. According to doctors, the veteran actor had suffered a serious and acute cardiac arrest, the main reason behind which was a sudden interruption in the electrical system of the heart. After this tragic and shocking incident, a serious discussion has once again started among the medical world and his fans regarding heart related diseases.

In the language of medical science, when we talk about heart attack and cardiac arrest, there is a subtle and huge difference between the two. Heart attack usually occurs due to blockage in the coronary arteries due to stoppage of blood circulation, while cardiac arrest is a condition of failure of the heart’s electrical system or a sudden dangerous short-circuit like disturbance in it. Our heart naturally needs electrical impulses to beat at a consistent rhythm and speed, which are controlled by the sinus node. When in a serious situation, there is a sudden imbalance in these electrical impulses or a fatal condition like ventricular fibrillation occurs, then the heart muscles stop pumping and the heartbeat suddenly stops completely, due to which the brain and other organs of the body stop getting oxygen.

According to Goa hospital sources and official information given by the medical team, when Nana Patekar was brought to the hospital in an unconscious state, the team of doctors tried their best to save him. Under the cardiac emergency protocol, doctors tried their best to reactivate his heart and bring the electrical system back on track through continuous CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and modern defibrillator machines for about 45 minutes. But the heartbeat and its internal electrical system were so badly disrupted that the body did not respond to medical efforts. Doctors believe that when cardiac arrest is very rapid and serious, sometimes it becomes very difficult to save the patient even after reaching the hospital on time, because the blood flow to the brain stops within a few moments.

Nana Patekar’s sudden demise is a bitter truth of the fact that heart diseases and cardiac arrest can strike anyone without any prior warning, no matter how fit and active a person appears to be on the surface. The stress of modern lifestyle, excessive work pressure, irregular eating habits and sometimes hidden cardiac risks affect this delicate electrical system of the body over time. Health experts recommend that after the age of 40, every person should regularly get basic heart tests done like ECG, Echocardiogram and Lipid Profile so that any hidden danger can be detected in time. The demise of Nana Patekar, who will always be remembered as the ‘revolutionary’ of Indian cinema and a great human being, has left a void in the film industry that can never be filled, but his life and end has given us a big message to be conscious about our health.
