Namami Gange cleans Ganga ghats before Dala Chhath, calls for cleanliness

Varanasi, 06 November (HS). On Wednesday, on the occasion of Surya Shashthi (Dala Chhath), a four-day festival associated with folk faith, Namami Gange workers conducted a cleanliness campaign from Rajendra Prasad Ghat to Dashashwamedh Ghat. The members collected polythene filled worship materials, clothes buried in the foothills and other wastes from the banks of Ganga and took them to the dustbin. After this, the volunteer members marched from Rajendra Prasad Ghat to Dashashwamedh Ghat carrying placards with cleanliness slogans in their hands. During this, cleanliness was taught through loudspeakers.

Program coordinator Rajesh Shukla said that in this festival celebrated since time immemorial, Lord Bhaskar, who spreads energy on earth, is worshipped. Before the festival, the work of cleaning water bodies like rivers, ponds, ponds etc. starts. The importance of Chhath Puja is not limited only to religious or folk life, but it also underlines the relationship between our environment and lifestyle. Today, when our Prime Minister Narendra Modi is running awareness missions regarding 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan', campaign against single use plastic and programs like 'Namami Gange', it has become more relevant to mention the importance of folk festival Chhath, because this festival Special attention is paid to cleanliness.
