In Sanatan Dharma, the holy festival of ‘Nag Panchami’ is celebrated with utmost devotion and gaiety throughout the country on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Shravan month. Today, on August 17, 2026, a very rare and fruitful coincidence has occurred, when this holy date of Nag Panchami falls on the third Monday of Sawan. This rare confluence of worshiping the God of Gods Mahadev and the divine neck ornament Naag Devta together has brought a miraculous opportunity for the seekers, Shiva devotees and the people suffering from Kaal Sarp Dosh or inauspicious effects of Rahu-Ketu in the birth chart.
In the scriptures, snakes are considered the lord of the underworld, the protector of underground natural wealth and a symbol of the balance of the universe. Lord Vishnu resting on the bed of Sheshnag and Lord Bholenath holding Vasuki snake around his neck shows the deep philosophical significance of expressing gratitude towards animals and every form of nature in Sanatan culture. It is believed that by worshiping the snake god properly on this day, the family gets freedom from the fear of snakes, wealth, happiness and peace reside in the house and all the ill effects of Kaalsarp Dosh are calmed down.
