‘My India is great!’ Indian woman was shocked to see the price of green chilli in American supermarket, shared the video and said – ‘Buying chilli here means buying gold and silver’

In India, whenever we buy potatoes, onions or other vegetables from a vegetable market or a street vendor, it is like our birth right to get some green chillies and coriander thrown in the bag for free at the end. Even the vegetable vendors laugh and give four-five chillies for free. But have you ever thought how much you may have to pay for the same green chilli in foreign countries? These days, a video of an Indian woman is creating a stir on social media, who was completely shocked to see the price of just a few green chillies in a supermarket in America. Woman’s eyes stopped after seeing 114 gram chilli packet

In this video going viral, it can be seen that an Indian woman reaches a big supermarket in America to buy vegetables. When she goes to the green chilli section while roaming there, her eyes fall on a small plastic box (packet). The woman is shocked to see the price written on the packet and immediately takes out her camera and starts recording the incident. The woman tells in the video that buying green chillies in America is as expensive as buying gold or silver. Showing the weight of the packet, he said that this small box of only 114 grams contains hardly 12 to 13 chillies, but any Indian will be shocked to hear its price.

Chilli is being sold at around Rs 3500 per kg in Indian Rupees.

The woman further calculated in the video and showed that the price of this small packet of 114 grams is around Rs 400 (as per Indian currency). If the price of 1 kg green chilli is estimated accordingly, then in America it reaches around Rs 3500 per kg. The woman says that in India, so many chillies are put in the vegetable bag without taking any money, whereas here one has to exchange a ₹ 400 note for it. This is the reason why this video reached thousands of people within a few hours of being uploaded and a new debate has started on social media regarding it.

After this video went viral, very funny and interesting reactions are coming from Indian users in the comment section. Commenting proudly, one user wrote, “That’s why they say – My India is great! A pav (250 grams) of chilli is available here for ₹20.” At the same time, another user wrote in a humorous manner, “Looking at this sentiment, it seems that now we should go to America and start chilli cultivation.”

However, some users did not consider this comparison completely correct and, keeping a practical point of view, wrote that the income and salary of the people in America is also much higher in dollars accordingly, hence comparing the prices by directly converting the currency into Indian Rupees does not show the complete picture. Apart from this, due to higher cost of packaging, transportation, labor cost and cold storage in foreign countries, vegetables are sold at a higher price compared to India.
