With the effect of this fast, all the troubles of life go away and all the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled.
Beginning of Ravi Pradosh fast story and story of poor Brahmin
According to mythology, once upon a time there lived a very poor Brahmin family in a village. The wife of that Brahmin was of a very religious, philanthropic and saintly nature, who used to observe Pradosh fast regularly with full devotion. The couple had only one son, who was their only support in life. One day the boy set out alone to take a bath in the Ganga. Unfortunately, on the way, some bandits surrounded the boy and started threatening him and asking him where his father’s hidden money was. To this the child replied very politely that they were very poor and they did not have any such hidden wealth.
The child in trouble and the divine dream of Lord Shiva
When the bandits expressed suspicion after seeing the bundle present with the boy, he told that his mother had kept rotis in it to eat. Seeing the boy’s honesty and poor condition, the bandits let him go without causing any harm. After this the child moved ahead and reached another city and due to fatigue slept under a huge banyan tree. Coincidentally, at that very moment the city police arrived there searching for some dacoits and arrested the sleeping child, considering him a thief and presented him before the king. The king sentenced him to imprisonment without any investigation. The same night, the child’s mother observed Pradosh fast as per the rituals and remained engrossed in the worship of Lord Shiva. Pleased with the true devotion of the mother, Lord Shiva appeared to the king in a dream at night and warned that the child who was held captive was completely innocent. Lord Shiva told the king that if he was not released by morning, his entire kingdom and glory would be destroyed.
Award received from the king and importance of Pradosh fast
As soon as the king woke up the next morning, he became frightened and immediately called the boy to the court. The child told the whole truth to the king while crying. As soon as the king came to know the truth, he sent his soldiers and summoned the child’s parents to the royal court with respect. The king consoled the Brahmin family and announced that his son was completely innocent and by the grace of Lord Shiva, his trouble had been averted. Seeing the pitiful financial condition of the Brahmin family, the king donated five villages to them for living and maintenance. After this, that poor family became full of happiness and prosperity and started living a happy life. This mythological story gives a clear message that with true faith and the glory of Pradosh Vrat, Mahadev removes all the biggest problems of his devotees.
