Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project gets a boost, track slab manufacturing factory started in Surat

3 Mumbai Ahmedabad Bullet Train

Appearance: Mumbai has reached an important milestone with the establishment of its first track slab manufacturing factory in Surat along the Ahmedabad Bullet Train Corridor. This factory is 320-350 km. An important step towards building a track capable of achieving train speeds per hour.

National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited unveiled a state-of-the-art factory with a production capacity of 120 slabs per day. These slabs are needed to hold the track securely in place, ensuring stability at high speeds. To further accelerate the project, NHRCL plans to set up another track slab manufacturing facility between Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Dahanu in Maharashtra by next year. Tenders for this second factory will be called by February 2025, with contractors tasked with finalizing the site.

The Surat facility uses Japanese Shinkansen technology to build ballast-less track slabs, which will cover the Gujarat and Daman-Diu section (237 km) of the corridor. Each precast reinforced concrete slab is 2,200 mm wide, 4,900 mm long and 190 mm thick and weighs approximately 3.9 tonnes.

A look at factory features

– The factory is spread over 19 acres.

– 3 dedicated manufacturing rooms with 120 molds for slab production simultaneously.

-The slabs undergo a steam treatment process to ensure optimum strength.

-Before this, after keeping the slab in the factory for 28 days, it is sent to the construction site.

– Till now 9,775 slabs have been constructed.

-Anand’s factory has produced more than 22000 slabs covering a total of 110 track kilometers.
