According to the official calendar of the Central Government and the new orders of various state governments, due to the holiday of Muharram (Muharram 2026), many holidays are falling simultaneously in the last week of June, which people can use to travel or handle their important family work.

Central government employees will get leave on June 26

According to the official holiday list of employees released by the Central Government, this year 26 June 2026, Friday, has been declared as Muharram holiday.

  • Mathematics of 3 days leave: Since Saturday and Sunday are weekly holidays in most of the central government offices, ministries and autonomous bodies, the addition of Muharram holiday on Friday (June 26) is going to give the central employees a big and comfortable weekend of three consecutive days (June 26 to June 28). For this long holiday, employees and their families have already started planning tours or outings.

Banks will also remain closed for 3 consecutive days at the end of June

This week is very important for bank employees and the general public also. In the last week of June, banks will remain closed for three consecutive days in most parts of the country, due to which financial transactions may be affected:

  1. 26 June 2026 (Friday): There will be an official holiday in banks as per the rules of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on the holy occasion of Muharram.

  2. 27 June 2026 (Saturday): This is the month of June Fourth Saturday Is. According to banking guidelines, the second and fourth Saturday of every month is a complete holiday in all government and private banks of the country.

  3. 28 June 2026 (Sunday): Banks will remain completely closed due to weekly holiday.

In this way, banking sector employees will also get three consecutive days leave. If you have to go to the bank branch to get a draft made, get your KYC updated or do any other important paperwork, then definitely complete it by June 25, otherwise you will have to wait for June 29 (Monday). However, during this period, ATM, mobile banking and online net banking services will continue to work smoothly 24 hours.

Doubts regarding date of Muharram removed; States changed holidays

Initially, there was some confusion about whether the Muharram holiday would be on June 25 or June 26. Since according to the Islamic calendar applicable in India, the 10th day of Muharram (Yaum-e-Ashura) is considered the most important, and according to the mathematics of moon sighting, there is every possibility that it will fall on June 26 this year. In view of this, many state governments have made immediate administrative amendments in their old holiday lists:

  • Andhra Pradesh and Telangana: According to media reports, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments had initially notified the Muharram holiday on June 25 in their annual calendars. But after the actual day of the festival was confirmed, both the state governments changed the order and announced the holiday. June 26 (Friday) Is done.

  • Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Delhi: The state holiday of Muharram has already been fixed on June 26 in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, including the country’s capital Delhi.

Fun in schools, colleges and educational institutions too, doors will open on Monday

School and college students are also going to get direct benefits of Muharram holiday. In big states like Delhi, UP and Bihar, all government and private educational institutions will remain locked on June 26.

  • Institutions with 5-day week: All such schools, colleges, universities or corporate offices which work only five days a week (5-Day Week), there will be three consecutive days of holidays from June 26 (Friday) to June 28 (Sunday). Now regular classes or work will resume in these institutions 29 June 2026, Monday Will start smoothly from.
