MUDA Scam Evidence Tempering: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's troubles are increasing day by day. Now a fresh complaint has been filed against Siddaramaiah and others after a probe was ordered into the alleged scam. Siddaramaiah and his son are accused of destroying evidence in the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case.

Who complained?

According to the report, a person named Pradeep Kumar has filed this complaint. Kumar demanded investigation and registration of case against Siddaramaiah and others for allegedly tampering and destroying evidence. Chief Minister's son Yatindra Siddaramaiah is also named in the complaint.

What is this MUDA scam?

Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) came up with a scheme for those who lost their land during urban development. In this scheme called 50:50, those who lost land were entitled to 50% of the developed land. This scheme, first implemented in 2009, was discontinued by the then BJP government in 2020.

Muda continued to acquire and allot land under the 50:50 scheme even after the government discontinued the scheme. This entire controversy is about this. It is alleged that under this, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's wife Parvati was given benefits.

CM's wife's participation in 50:50 scheme:

It is alleged that 3 acres and 16 guntas (1 gunta or gunta = 1,089 square feet) of land belonging to the Chief Minister's wife was acquired by MUDA. In return, 14 sites were allotted in the posh area. This land outside Mysore was gifted to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's wife Parvati by his brother Mallikarjuna Swamy in 2010.

CM's wife Parvati applied for compensation, on the basis of which MUDA was allotted 14 sites in Vijayanagara-III and IV phase. A total of 38,284 sq ft was allotted under the 50:50 ratio scheme of the state government. There are allegations of scam in 14 posts allotted in the name of the Chief Minister's wife. The opposition alleges that MUDA has committed huge irregularities in the allotment of these posts to Parvati. However, interestingly, during the BJP rule in 2021, the Chief Minister's wife Parvati was allotted a new seat in Vijayanagar.
