Mpox Cases: The dangerous ampox i.e. monkeypox has now knocked in India's neighboring country Pakistan as well. This has caused concern for India. Keeping this situation in mind, the Center has asked the officials at the airports, ports and borders of Bangladesh and Pakistan to take precautions for international travelers.
Along with this, the government has asked the hospitals to prepare isolation wards for the patients.
Three government hospitals in Delhi have been selected as the main facilities for separate treatment of ampox patients. The names of these three hospitals include Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Safdarjung Hospital and Lady Hardinge Hospital.
PK Mishra, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday chaired a meeting to review the country's preparedness for MPox amid an eye on early detection.

- The Centre has asked all states to keep hospitals ready to deal with ampox cases. These hospitals should be designated as nodal centres and the public should be informed about it, sources said.
- Officials said that at present no case of ampox has been reported in the country. They said that according to the assessment, the risk of its spread due to continuous transmission is low.
- This time the virus strain is different and is more virulent and infectious. But current assessments suggest that the risk of widespread spread is low with continued transmission in the country
- The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared ampox a public health emergency of international concern due to its prevalence and spread in many parts of Africa.
- The Health Ministry has ordered officials to ensure that a network of testing laboratories is ready to treat the disease promptly. Currently, 32 laboratories in the country have been designated for MPOX testing.
- A previous WHO statement said that ampox had caused 99,176 cases and 208 deaths in 116 countries since 2022.
- Cases of ampox are on the rise in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Last year there was a significant increase in the number of cases reported worldwide. This year, the number of cases reported so far has surpassed last year's total, with more than 15,600 cases and 537 deaths.
- At least 30 MPOX cases have been reported in India since 2022. The last case of MPOX was reported in March this year.
