Dengue, malaria and other serious diseases are currently widespread in the city. To save lives, patients need large quantities of blood platelets. But, platelets were still being extracted from the blood in the blood bank using old technology (blood component separation). In which, along with wasting hours, many more donors are required. Now, with the installation of Platelets Apheresis Machine (SDP) here, all these problems will be solved and the lives of many serious patients will be saved. With this machine, there will be faster recovery of patients and one blood donor will be used equivalent to about five donors. With the introduction of SDP machine facility, poor and labor patients can get SDP free of cost and the patients can get a lot of relief.
With the installation of this machine, it will now be possible to extract platelets from a single donor as per the need of the patient through Single Donor Platelets (SDP) method. Earlier, blood from three to four donors was taken for this. Then the platelets were separated. In this process, platelets are released from the blood within an hour. Blood is taken out from the donor's body and taken to the machine. From there the platelets are separated and reach the patient's body and the remaining blood is again transported to the donor's body. The special thing is that the person donating platelets can give platelets again after 72 hours.
Platelets increase by 50 to 60 thousand
By transfusion of platelets with this method, platelets increase by 50 to 60 thousand in the patient. Till now, after drawing blood, platelets were extracted through Random Donor Platelets (RDP) method. This takes at least six hours. After donating blood once, blood could be donated again after three months. Transfusion of one unit RDP increases the platelet count by only five thousand. Because of this many units of platelets had to be transfused.
In view of the increasing demand for platelets, MP Sudhir Gupta talked to the officials and immediately sanctioned funds for this state-of-the-art machine. With the arrival of this state-of-the-art machine, patients will get a lot of financial relief over time. Platelets are used not only in dengue patients but in many other serious diseases.
