Saharsa, 03 October (Hindustan Reporter). Independent MP from Purnia Lok Sabha Pappu Yadav, in a press conference in Saharsa on Thursday, demanded declaring the district as a flood affected area. He said that before 72 hours the Central Government and Bihar Government received information that 6 lakh 63 thousand cusecs of water would be released in Kosi River. Still, this information was not given to the general public by the government. Due to which it affected lakhs of people living inside the Kosi embankment.

MP Pappu Yadav said that lakhs of houses were submerged. Cattle also fell victim to the flood. Crops worth crores were damaged. People's lives were destroyed. Many innocent people lost their lives but no arrangements were made by the government rather people were left to God. He asked why the Center is afraid of Nepal. There is no talk of building HYDAM by the government. No compromise is being made. Neither is any new barrage being seriously thought of. There is no talk of renovating and widening the old Kosi embankment. No work is being done to remove the silt accumulated inside the rivers.

He said that the dam is not even being repaired through the World Bank. The work of looting is being done through contractors with the connivance of politicians. Despite the promptness of the district administration inside the Kosi embankment, the Kosi dam could not be saved. The western embankment of the river of Jamalpur and Kiratpur villages was broken. Its people have had to face a lot of problems. He said that I was the first person who reached out to the flood victims and wiped their tears. Besides, bottled water, ration and cash were also provided to the people suffering from hunger and thirst. A community kitchen has been started for food.

MP Yadav said that at the time of Kushwaha tragedy in 2008, it was considered as national mourning. Also crores of rupees came to help the flood victims. Crores of rupees were also spent for the development of the area but till date the situation in those areas remains the same. There is still sand spread in the fields due to which the farmers are disappointed. He said that elections are being held in Haryana today due to which there is a glut of helicopters there but no helicopter facility has been provided for the flood victims. Flood victims are drowning in water but those leaders are not worried. For those people, the flood seems to be like a picnic spot due to which no politician or public representative including the opposition party is helping in bringing tears to the flood victims.
