Mumbai: After Bandra Fort Garden, now residents of Bandra (West) have started a fight to save the trees of Mehboob Studio Chowk from being cut in the name of beautification. Under such movements, local people are visiting various gardens and have started making a list of improvements required for its development and area and sending it to the Municipal Corporation.

Last week, various Bandra citizens and environmental activists had written to the municipality over concretization and diminishing greenery in the 17th-century heritage Bandra Fort Garden. Citizens listed their comments and demands to maintain the old heritage look of the garden.

Following the call to save the heritage park, citizens have now turned their attention towards Madhukar Kulkarni Park, commonly known as Mehboob Chowk. He has expressed anger against the posters put up in this area. Citizens have opposed the idea of erecting a concrete structure by cutting down full-grown trees and removing grass and bushes.

In a letter supported by 130 people, locals wrote to the municipality that instead of reducing the size of the park, it should improve traffic management and start charging fines for illegal parking.

In this regard, a local person involved in the campaign said that in the name of beautification, the municipality is looking for an excuse for concretization everywhere. This is happening all over the city. They believe that development just means highways, buildings and malls. However, our effort is to change such mentality and maintain greenery in the city.
