East Champaran, 21 June (HS). A kidnapped youth from Jalpaiguri, West Bengal was recovered safely from Malkounia village of Mufassil police station area of the district. The kidnappers had kept the said youth locked in a room. They were continuously demanding a ransom of five lakhs from the family of the kidnapped youth. Police conducted a raid on the basis of mobile tower location and recovered the kidnapped youth safely and also arrested two kidnappers. While one kidnapper managed to escape.
The arrested kidnappers have been identified as Vivek Kumar, resident of Bhawanipur Jirat of Chhatauni police station and Mo Sakir of Khodanagar Mohalla. After recovering the kidnapped person, West Bengal police reached Motihari and took both the kidnappers with them on transit remand.
It is noteworthy that the miscreants called Ripam Kumar Varman alias Vikram Das, son of Selan Kumar Varman, resident of Bodagaj Turukaghat Baropatia under Kotwali police station of Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, to Motihari in the name of getting him a job, after which he caught a train from Jalpaiguri on June 19 and reached Bapudham railway station on June 20. From there, the miscreants took him to Surhan village of Malkaunia on a scooter and locked him in a room. They beat him with a hammer and sticks and made a video on his mobile and sent it on WhatsApp to his family members and demanded a ransom of five lakhs. After the incident, Ripam's father Selan Kumar Varman lodged an FIR of his son's kidnapping in Jalpaiguri Kotwali police station.
The SP of Julpaiguri sent the above video to Motihari SP Kantesh Kumar Mishra, after which Motihari SP formed a team including the technical cell for the safe recovery of Ripam. After which the team raided a house near Malkounia-Surahan on the basis of tower location and recovered the kidnapped youth safely and arrested two kidnappers.
SP Kantesh Kumar Mishra said that the West Bengal police took both the kidnappers with them on transit remand. The raiding team comprised of Mufassil SHO Manish Kumar, Technical Cell SI Manish Kumar, constable Kumar Chiranjeevi, Nityanand Dubey and others.
