Adelaide: Nowadays, problems like autism and ADHD are being seen more in children. A study has shown that obesity before or during pregnancy increases the risk of neurodevelopmental problems like autism and ADHD in children. A child suffering from ADHD or attention deficit has trouble concentrating and an autistic child has trouble repeating the same behavior again and again. This also affects their communication with people. This study has been published in the Psychiatry Journal.
Researchers at the University of South Australia reviewed 42 studies. This included more than 3.6 million mother-child pairs. The study found that obesity during pregnancy increases the risk of ADHD in children by 32 percent and doubles the risk of autism. According to lead researcher Bereket Duko, obesity has been studied to have a negative impact on birth outcomes, including premature birth, low birth weight and more. This study examined maternal overweight and obesity before and during pregnancy, which suggests that children born may face psychological and behavioral problems, especially ASD, ADHD.
