The American oceanic island country Papua New Guinea has been in the news for a long time. Because, there was a massive landslide in Papua New Guinea two days ago. More than two thousand people have been buried alive in its debris. Apart from this, six villages have been destroyed. Thousands of people are seriously injured. People's homes, schools, petrol pumps have been completely destroyed. A video of the land slide has also surfaced.

According to the information, the landslide occurred in Kaoklam village, about 600 km from Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. The mountain collapsed in the early morning of May 24 as per Indian time and the villages situated at the foothills were destroyed by debris and mud. An official of the National Emergency Center gave this information in a letter written to the UNO.

There was devastation all around after the landslide

According to the information given in the letter written to the UNO, more than two thousand people were buried alive in the landslide. Buildings, fields, crops have suffered a lot of damage. This has greatly affected the country's economic condition. Relief and rescue teams in Papua New Guinea faced many challenges in the search on Saturday, villages buried under the debris were getting destroyed.

There are no official figures but many people have died. There were three villages in the affected area in which about four thousand people lived. The area where the landslide occurred was heavily populated. People are feared dead in this area. Local officials have estimated the death toll to be more than 100. Only five bodies were recovered on Sunday morning and a leg of the sixth victim was recovered from the debris.

It is being claimed that the landslide area is large

According to the information, people living in Papua New Guinea are being evacuated to safer areas. A part of Mount Mungalo has collapsed. An official of a private agency said that apart from providing food, water and shelter to the landslide survivors, they are also to be provided a safe place to live.

According to officials, many hospitals including houses, small offices, guest houses, schools and gas stations have also been buried in the ground. The government has sent health workers. Employees of the World Health Organization are providing assistance. But the area affected by the landslide is so large that there is no hope of survival for the people buried under the debris. It is worth noting that Papua New Guinea is located in the tropical region, but this island is located at an altitude of two thousand meters above sea level.
