More than fifty rounds fired near DSP's house, dispute over money transaction; A young man injured

Amritsar : Despite the implementation of the election code of conduct, firing has become common in the city. On Tuesday afternoon, there was heavy firing between two parties outside the house of a DSP living in Ranjit Avenue D Block. Eyewitnesses said that there was an atmosphere of panic in the area due to firing of more than fifty rounds. People of the area ran towards their homes to save their lives. There is also information about a young man being injured due to gunshot.

As soon as the incident was known, ACP Virendra Singh Khosa and Inspector Neeraj Chaudhary of Ranjit Avenue police station reached the spot. Police have recovered bullet shells from the incident site. ACP Virinder Singh Khosa said that the matter is being investigated. The accused are also being identified. Vishal Sabharwal, an eyewitness present at the spot, said that he was going towards Ranjit Avenue D Block for some work on Tuesday afternoon. At a short distance from Gurudwara Sahib, 25-30 boys were abusing each other. The youth in two groups were staring at each other. After this there was a scuffle and bullets were fired.

Eyewitnesses said that the accused started firing directly at each other. However, people were also out of their homes at the time of the incident. People ran away and closed the doors of their houses and hid. The windows of some houses were also broken by the bullets. There is a lot of panic in the area due to this hooliganism which lasted for about five minutes. People of the area called the police control room and informed. After some time, Ranjit Avenue police reached the spot with heavy police force.

On the other hand, ACP Virinder Singh Khosa said that preliminary investigation has revealed that there was a dispute over money between the immigration businessmen. Two youths named Arshdeep Singh and Balihar Singh, residents of Dera Baba Nanak, have got visas to go abroad. Immigration businessmen Ajaydeep Singh and Akashdeep Singh demanded money in exchange for work, there was a dispute between the two parties over some issue. Here both the parties clashed in Ranjit Avenue.

Police officials claim that weapons have been deposited

On the other hand, despite the implementation of the election code of conduct, the incidents of firing in the city are not decreasing. Top police officials claim that 80 percent of the weapons have been deposited in police stations. The remaining twenty percent is under consideration of the screening committee. Then the firing happening every day proves that there is a stock of illegal weapons in the city.
