Kabul: A total of 65 square km out of 26 provinces of Afghanistan. The area was found in various places. Tunnels are scattered everywhere on the ground. This includes Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says explosions in those tunnels in 2024 caused serious injuries to more than 500 children, many of whom died. These tunnels were originally laid by the Afghan Taliban to prevent the advance of then-Karzai government forces and the foreign forces supporting them. But the clumsy Taliban laid those tunnels everywhere without any planning.
Generally all armies have tunnels along the front line and inside it to prevent the advancing troops of the opposing army, but there is a specific method. The leaders of their armies are given their “maps.” So that his soldiers could pass between the two tunnels.
The Afghan Taliban thought of no such method, except where they laid tunnels. Now many of those tunnels remain blast-free. If it falls on it, it bursts. So many children have been injured. Of these, 500 have become very serious, many have died. Thus, Afghanistan is at his mercy.
Still, drought conditions persist in Afghanistan. Hunger is rampant. Out of a population of 13 crore, at least 70 lakh people do not have food grains. The food sent by the World Food Program (WFP) falls short. The World Food Program has defended this by saying that the organization does not have enough money for this.
The same situation has persisted there for the last two years. When India sent 5000 tonnes of wheat, initially Pakistan stopped the trucks carrying wheat at the border. The UN representative, with some persuasion, allowed the truck to go. At that time some citizens of India said: “The invaders coming from Afghanistan left nothing to plunder India, now it is Afghanistan’s turn to live on India’s food.”
