Mumbai: In the current Kharif season, more than fifty percent of the normal Kharif sowing has been completed in the country. According to data released by the Ministry of Agriculture, Kharif sowing has been completed in 575 lakh hectare area till July 15 in the current season, while in the Kharif season of 2023, sowing has been done in 521.25 lakh hectare area till July 15.
Usually, sowing is done in a total area of 1095.84 lakh hectares in the Kharif season. Thus, sowing has been done in 52.48 percent of the normal sowing area so far in the current season.
In the current season, Kharif sowing has increased by 10.30 percent compared to this period last year. Due to the progress of monsoon across the country, sowing work is going on at a fast pace.
Crop-wise, paddy cultivation, which was 95.78 lakh hectares till this period last year, has increased significantly to 115.64 lakh hectares. Pulse cultivation has also been completed in 62.32 lakh hectares as against 49.50 lakh hectares. Among pulses, sowing of tuvar dal and urad has increased. Farmers of major pulses are seen taking more crops in the hope of good prices.
The data received shows that the area sown under oilseeds is also much higher than 115.08 lakh hectare and has reached 140.43 lakh hectare till now.
