More than 50 families 'migrated' due to landslide after 3 hours of continuous rain in Uttarkashi | News India

Uttarkashi: Amidst continuous rain, another landslide occurred from Varunavat mountain in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand on Tuesday night. People got scared after hearing the sound of the landslide. The sound was so loud that people ran out of their houses.

Landslide has started again on Varunavat mountain

Five landslides occurred on Varunavat mountain in a span of 45 minutes. Panic spread in Masjid Mohalla, Jal Sansthan Colony and Gofiara area due to heavy falling of stones and debris. About 50 families have left their homes and taken shelter in safe places.

About 50 families have left their homes and taken shelter in safe places. As soon as the information about the incident was received, the District Disaster Management became active. District Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal, Additional District Magistrate Raza Abbas, Sub-District Magistrate Brijesh Kumar Tiwari immediately reached the District Disaster Operation Center and took stock of the situation.

After 21 years, the landslide became active again

Varunavat mountain is situated between the Asi and Varuna rivers. Varunavat hill is famous for the mythological temple and Panchkosi Varuni Yatra. A devastating landslide occurred here in the year 2003. At that time, many high-rise buildings collapsed in Gofiara area, Tabakhani Road and Bhatwadi Road including the mosque area on the mountain. Then a large population was moved from the danger areas to safer places. Now after about 21 years, once again people are scared of the landslide on Varunavat mountain.
