More than 50,000 people have faced problems due to cancellation of more than 400 flights in Canada. Currently, international and domestic flights have been cancelled here. The reason for this is said to be a strike. WestJet company said in a statement that this problem has arisen due to the maintenance workers union going on strike. WestJet is one of the second largest airlines in Canada. The company said that 407 flights had to be cancelled due to the strike. This has affected the travel of more than 49,000 people on international and domestic flights in the country.
WestJet President Dedrick Payne said in a statement that the company is making every effort to respond to the outage and is working around the clock to create a stable network. At the same time, the airline's CEO Alexis von Hoensbroch directly blamed an American union trying to enter Canada for the situation. Vaughan said that an agreement was reached with the union after government mediation, but the situation has changed.
In fact, on Thursday, the government had issued an order for arbitration. After this, the sudden announcement of the strike started affecting international and domestic flights. WestJet said it will continue to park planes for the Canada Day long weekend that ends on Monday. The airline has about 200 aircraft and says it will operate about 30 planes by Sunday evening.
In this regard, the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association said that union members began the strike on Friday evening due to the airline's reluctance to negotiate. Air travel was affected during the Canada Day long weekend and passengers faced a lot of difficulties. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government tried to stop the strike but failed.
