More than 34 top tech companies lay off 1.24 lakh people in 7 months

Layoffs in Educational Companies: The tech industry is witnessing a massive surge in layoffs. In July, more than 8,000 professionals lost their jobs in 34 companies. Intel has laid off 15,000 jobs, or 15 percent of its workforce, as part of a $10 billion savings drive for next year. Microsoft will lay off a large number of employees this year and will also offer voluntary retirement.

Microsoft has laid off more than a thousand employees from its Mixed Reality and Azure Moonshots division. Intuit Inc. has announced plans to cut more than 1,800 jobs, or 10 percent of its workforce. British appliance maker Dyson plans to cut nearly a thousand jobs in the UK, affecting more than 25 percent of its workforce at its local site. As the US government banned its software, Kaspersky has announced it will shut down its operations in the US and lay off more than a dozen employees.

Bengaluru startup Reshammandi has laid off 80 percent of its employees after failing to secure Series B funding. Similarly, India's blogging platform Koo has shut its doors to jobs after acquisition talks with Dailyhunt failed. Unacademy has restructured and cut 250 jobs.

Wacool has cut its staff by more than a dozen employees, while Pocket FM has fired more than a dozen writers for its FM shows. Sony-owned Bungie has cut 220 employees due to rising costs and financial pressure. Humble Games has laid off its entire team of 36 employees after failing to find a buyer. A total of 1,24,517 employees have been laid off from 384 companies across the world so far this year in the tech industry.
