More than 140 people died in landslide in Wayanad, Indian Coast Guard in rescue operation

A landslide has occurred in the hilly areas near Meppadi in Wayanad district of Kerala. So far 123 people have died due to this natural disaster, while 128 people have been injured. Hundreds of people are feared to be stranded there. Local disaster response force personnel are carrying out relief and rescue operations. Apart from this, the Indian Coast Guard has also joined the rescue operation.

Indian Coast Guard sends a disaster relief team to Wayanad

In response to the landslide disaster in Wayanad, Indian Coast Guard District Headquarters (Kerala and Mahe) and Indian Coast Guard Station Beypore have dispatched disaster relief teams to the affected area. The teams have been deployed to provide immediate relief and assistance to the disaster affected communities.

The relief team comprises highly trained ICG personnel and a dedicated medical team. The team is equipped with necessary disaster relief materials. These include rubber boats for rescue operations, diesel powered pumps for managing water and drainage problems, life jackets for safety, raincoats and gum boots for protection of personnel in adverse weather conditions and other mud clearing equipment.

Rescue operation by Army along with NDRF and other agencies is underway

Regarding the rescue operation after the landslide in Wayanad, the Indian Army said that the Indian Army is carrying out rescue operations in the landslide-affected areas of Wayanad in collaboration with the NDRF and other agencies. About 150 people from Mudakkai village have been rescued, provided medical assistance and evacuated to safer places. Apart from the four squadrons already deployed with a total strength of about 225 personnel for the operation, two more squads with a total strength of about 140 personnel are on standby in Thiruvananthapuram so that they can be airlifted in a short time if required.
