Jagdalpur, 28 October (Hindustan Reporter). Bastar Olympics will be organized from November 1 to connect the youth of Naxal affected areas of Bastar division with the mainstream. In Bastar Olympics, players will participate in nine different disciplines of athletics – 100 m, 200 m, 400 m race, long jump, high jump, shot put, discus throw, javelin throw and relay race. Apart from this, archery, Indian round 30 meter, 50 meter, badminton, football, hockey, weightlifting, karate, kabaddi, kho-kho, volleyball and tug of war will be included. Hockey and weightlifting will start directly from the district level. In all the remaining sports, competition will be held at the development block level.
Tug of war will be demonstrative, which will be conducted for women in the senior category. Boys, girls and men and women will participate in the junior category and senior category. So far, more than one and a half lakh participants have registered to participate in this Olympics organized under the joint aegis of the State Home and Sports and Youth Welfare Departments. In this, October 30 has been fixed as the last date for registration of participants. The logo and mascot of Bastar Olympics will be unveiled by Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai soon.
Sports Director Tanuja Salam said that till now a total of 1 lakh 50 thousand 778 participants, including 77 thousand 74 men and 74 thousand 704 women, have registered themselves for the Bastar Olympics. In this, October 30 has been fixed as the last date for registration. Development block level events will be held between November 1 and November 20 in all the seven districts of Bastar division, Bastar, Kanker, Sukma, Bijapur, Dantewada, Narayanpur and Bijapur. District level events will be held between 21st and 26th November. Division level event is possible in the first week of December.
