Monsoon has once again taken a severe form across the country and the coming 24 hours can bring huge troubles for many states. According to the latest weather bulletin issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), tomorrow i.e. Monday 7 September 2026, a severe warning of torrential rain and strong thunderstorm has been issued in about 22 states of the country including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Delhi-NCR, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan. Meteorologists say that a powerful cyclonic circulation remains active over northwestern Madhya Pradesh and adjacent southwestern Uttar Pradesh.
Along with this, the continuous heavy moisture easterly winds coming from the Bay of Bengal and the northward inclination of the monsoon trough are making the atmosphere of the entire North and Central India highly unstable. Due to the effect of this seasonal movement, there is a possibility of storm winds blowing at a speed of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour in the plains, which can cause damage to weak trees, raw houses and electrical infrastructure. At the same time, the administration has been instructed to remain on alert mode regarding lightning in the eastern states and severe landslides in the hilly states.
There is going to be heavy accumulation of clouds in Uttar Pradesh on 7th September. The Meteorological Department has declared yellow and orange alert of heavy rain and thunderstorm from western Uttar Pradesh to the districts of Rohilkhand, Terai and Purvanchal. Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Meerut, Saharanpur, Badaun, Pilibhit and Amroha in western UP may record moderate to heavy rain with thunder.
In the districts of Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Sitapur, Siddharthnagar, Balrampur, Sonbhadra, Lalitpur, Etawah and Gorakhpur of Terai and Central region, heavy rains and winds at a speed of 45 km/hour are expected.
There will be movement of clouds throughout the day in the capital Lucknow and intermittent spells of rain will be seen. The maximum temperature in Lucknow on September 7 is expected to be around 30 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature will be around 26 degrees Celsius, which will provide relief from humidity but may cause problem of waterlogging in low-lying areas. There are chances of rain and thundershowers in Prayagraj and Azamgarh also.
There is already a flood crisis in Bihar due to the spate of Ganga and Gandak rivers, and the latest forecast of the Meteorological Department may increase this crisis further. On September 7, a severe warning of heavy rain as well as lightning has been issued in more than 22 districts of Bihar.
There is an alert of dust storm and torrential rain at the speed of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour in Patna, Gaya, Buxar, Bhojpur, Siwan, Saran, Rohtas, Kaimur, Jehanabad, Vaishali, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Saharsa, Supaul, Purnia, Kishanganj, Araria, Bhagalpur, Munger, Begusarai and Katihar. In the capital Patna, the maximum temperature can be recorded at 32 degrees and the minimum temperature can be recorded at 27 degrees Celsius. The Disaster Management Department has given strict instructions to farmers to avoid working in open fields.
In the neighboring state of Jharkhand, heavy rains with strong winds will continue in Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dumka, Palamu, Gumla, Chatra, Deoghar, Godda, Hazaribagh, Seraikela, West Singhbhum and Bokaro on September 7 and 8, where the wind speed can reach up to 50 km/hr. The maximum temperature of Ranchi is expected to be 29 degrees and the minimum temperature is expected to be 23 degrees.
In the hilly states, rain is now becoming a menace instead of a lifesaver. An alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rain and storm speed of 40 to 50 km/hour on September 7 in most of the hilly districts of Uttarakhand. According to Meteorological Center Dehradun, there is a high risk of landslides and boulder falls due to torrential rains in Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Nainital, Almora, Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal, Rishikesh and Haridwar.
Chardham pilgrims traveling on Badrinath, Kedarnath and Gangotri-Yamunotri national highways have been advised to exercise special caution and not stop at sensitive hilly turns. The maximum temperature in Dehradun will be around 28 degrees and the minimum will be around 22 degrees Celsius.
On the other hand, there is a possibility of heavy rains with thunderstorms in Mandi, Chamba, Una, Kinnaur, Kangra, Kullu, Solan, Bilaspur and Hamirpur districts of Himachal Pradesh on September 7 and 8. In Manali, the maximum temperature can drop to 14 degrees and the minimum temperature can drop to 6 degrees Celsius amidst severe cold.
There is also a warning of rain with strong winds of 45 to 50 km in Poonch, Anantnag, Kupwara, Jammu, Reasi, Baramulla and Kishtwar of Jammu and Kashmir, while the mercury in Srinagar will be between 29 degrees to 16 degrees.
The day of September 7 will be pleasant but full of thunder in the country’s capital New Delhi and NCR cities – Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad. According to the Meteorological Department, there will be moderate rain in Delhi and strong gusty winds will blow at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour throughout the day. The maximum temperature of Delhi will be recorded around 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature will be around 26 degrees Celsius. Strong winds and showers will improve air quality (AQI), but traffic may slow down due to waterlogging during peak hours.
In other plains states of North-West India, there is a possibility of thunderstorms with winds up to 40 km/hr in Kapurthala, Chandigarh, Faridkot, Firozpur, Sangrur, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Barnala and Bathinda in Punjab.
There is a possibility of heavy rain amid cloud movement in eastern and southern parts of Rajasthan – Bharatpur, Karauli, Jhalawar, Sawai Madhopur, Jhunjhunu, Baran, Bundi, Dausa, Bhilwara, Alwar, Jaisalmer, Udaipur and Sriganganagar, while in the capital Jaipur, the maximum temperature is expected to be 34 degrees and the minimum temperature is expected to be 25 degrees Celsius.
The direct impact of the seasonal cyclone formed in Central India is clearly visible on Madhya Pradesh. There is an alert of heavy rain on September 7 in Katni, Vidisha, Seoni, Damoh, Hoshangabad (Narmadapuram), Khargone, Mandla, Khandwa, Betul, Narsinghpur, Indore, Sagar, Chhindwara and Sidhi districts of MP. During this period, strong winds will blow at a speed of 30 to 40 km per hour. In the capital Bhopal, the maximum temperature can be recorded at 28 degrees and minimum at 23 degrees Celsius.
Howrah, Kalimpong, Kolkata, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Bankura, Cooch Behar and Durgapur in West Bengal in East India are also likely to receive heavy rainfall with squall winds reaching 30 to 40 km/hr. The maximum temperature of Kolkata will be 33 degrees and the minimum will be 27 degrees.
Apart from this, widespread rain activities will continue in the states of peninsular and southern India – Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and coastal Konkan region of Maharashtra due to the activity of southwest monsoon.
In view of the possible storm, rain and thundershowers on September 7, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Meteorological Department have issued safety advisories for common citizens, farmers and travelers:

Protection from lightning: At the time of loud thunder and lightning, do not under any circumstances stand in open fields, fields, pond banks or under tall trees and iron pillars. Take shelter in a permanent house immediately.

Use of Damini Mobile App: Farmers and cattle herders in rural areas should use the Government of India’s ‘Damini’ app, which issues accurate warnings 20 to 30 minutes before lightning strikes.

Agricultural instructions for farmers: Do not allow waterlogging in Kharif crops (paddy, maize, pulses) standing in the fields and immediately clean the drains to drain excess water. Stop spraying any kind of pesticide or chemical fertilizer for the next 24 to 48 hours.

Road Trip and Driving: Keep your speed slow while driving during heavy rains and strong winds. Avoid traveling at night on hilly roads and do not dare to cross any submerged culvert, ravine or river drain.
