Jet Airways Founder Naresh Goyal: The Bombay High Court has granted two months interim bail to Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal on medical grounds in a money laundering case. Naresh Goyal is currently undergoing treatment at Reliance Hospital. Naresh Goyal will have to pay a bond of Rs 1 lakh and will not be able to leave Mumbai. Goyal was arrested by ED in September in a money laundering case. Naresh Goyal and his wife Anita Goyal are suffering from cancer. Naresh Goyal had sought relief from the court on the grounds of illness.
ED opposed the bail plea
The Bombay High Court, while granting him bail on Monday, said that the relief is being given keeping in mind his medical condition. However, the Enforcement Directorate opposed the bail, saying his stay at the private hospital could be extended by a month. In February, the special court had rejected the bail plea of Naresh Goyal and said that he can get treatment in a private hospital of his choice.
Anita Goyal was also arrested by ED
ED had arrested Naresh Goyal in September 2023. He is accused of transferring a loan of Rs 538.62 crore received from Canara Bank to Jet Airways. ED has accused him of money laundering. Then in November 2023, his wife Anita Goyal was also arrested by ED. However, considering his health and age, the special court granted him bail.
He cried in the court during the hearing
Naresh Goyal cried in front of the court during a hearing in January. During this, Naresh Goyal said that death is better than such a life. I have lost hope of living. I would rather die in jail. The Jet Airways founder told the court on February 15 that he wanted bail to seek treatment for his slowly progressing cancer. The court ordered the formation of a medical board for investigation. Also ordered the Medical Board to decide whether he will be treated in a government hospital or not.
