Kolkata, 5 October (Hindustan Reporter). The first Kolkata derby of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season will be played this evening when Mohun Bagan Super Giants and Mohammedan SC meet at the Salt Lake Stadium. Both these teams have played three matches so far and scored four points each. After this match, ISL Matchweek 4 will end and the league will go on international break.
These two teams will clash for the first time in ISL. The Mariners have won seven, drawn two and lost two of their 11 matches against teams they have faced for the first time in the league.
With the win over Chennaiyin FC, Mohammedan SC became the fifth team to win their first away match in the ISL. If the Black Panthers beat the Mariners, they will become the second team in ISL history to win both their opening away matches.
The Mariners have conceded seven goals in three matches so far, which is worrying Spanish head coach Jose Molina. He has identified a flaw in the team's attacking formation, which is the cause of this problem.
“We are conceding too many goals,” Molina said. Some goals are being conceded due to defensive mistakes, but most of the goals are being conceded due to flaws in the attacking formation. So, we need to improve.”
Mohammedan SC's Russian head coach Andrey Chernyshov believes that his team's confidence has increased significantly after their first win against Chennaiyin FC.
“The Mariners are a strong team,” he said. We respect him. But we are also strong; We want to play good football in this league. We have shown this in the last three matches. After the first two matches, the players understood that they could play good football. Now they have understood that they can win matches in the ISL and that is very important for us.”
