The chaos prevailing in Bangladesh is now about to end. In the neighboring country, an interim government will be sworn in on Thursday (August 8) under the leadership of Nobel Prize winner Mohammad Yunus. Mohammad Yunus also appealed to everyone to maintain peace in view of the violence that took place on Wednesday (August 7). Incidents of arson, violence and vandalism have increased in Bangladesh since Sheikh Hasina left the post of PM.
Received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006
Mohammad Yunus has returned to Dhaka after undergoing treatment in Paris. Before boarding the flight, he said, “I appeal to everyone to remain calm. Please avoid any kind of violence. I am looking forward to going back home and seeing what is happening there and how we can organize ourselves to get out of this kind of trouble.” Mohammad Yunus was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006.
Muhammad Yunus chosen as head of government: Army chief
Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman said in Dhaka that the interim government will be sworn in on Thursday night after Yunus returns to the country. He said that discussions were held between the three army chiefs, President Mohammad Shahabuddin, leaders of political parties and students leading the protests. After this Mohammad Yunus has been chosen as the chief advisor or head of the caretaker government. He said, “I have spoken to Professor Yunus. I felt that he is eager to do this work and I am sure that he will succeed in taking us towards a good democratic process and we will do so. He will return by Thursday afternoon. The chiefs of the three armies will help him. I am sure that all political parties and student organizations will help and cooperate with him.”
There will be 15 members in the government: Army Chief
General Waqar-uz-Zaman said that the caretaker government will have about 15 members. It can also be increased if needed. However, not much information has been given about other departments including the role of the army in the government. Reports suggest that Yunus may handle the important foreign affairs department. The army chief said that the situation has been brought under control, hopefully everything will be under control soon.
