New Delhi: A 19-year-old youth from Moga who allegedly hired a contract killer to kill a man who had an objectionable video of him with his girlfriend on social media app Instagram has been arrested, Moga police said on Wednesday. He was 'blackmailing' her, Moga police said on Wednesday. They said the main accused had given Rs 4,000 in cash and a mobile phone to the contract killer.
Police said the body of Gurmukh Singh alias Sunil (22), a resident of Singhanwala in Moga, was found in a drain near Bukanwala on the night of September 16. He was strangulated with a cloth and his throat was slit with a knife.
SSP Ankur Gupta said that during the investigation it was found that Gurmukh Singh had some objectionable videos with the 19-year-old accused. Gurmukh was allegedly blackmailing the youth on the basis of these videos and threatening to make them public.
SSP Gupta said the accused contacted Gurlal Singh (22) of Saido village in Tarn Taran district on Instagram and asked him to kill Gurmukh. The deal was struck for Rs 15,000, police said.
On September 15, Gurlal and his friend Omkar Singh (20) took a bus from Singhawala to the specified location. Meanwhile, 19-year-old Gurmukh called him to a drain near Bukanwala on the pretext of drinking alcohol.
Police said that all of them had drunk alcohol together. After this Omkar put chilli powder in Gurmukh's eyes and strangled him with a cloth. After this Gurlal slit his throat with a knife.
The body was then dumped in a drain. Gurlal and Omkar took the deceased's bike and left for Tarn Taran. Police said the 19-year-old had given them Rs 4,000 in cash and a mobile phone to carry out the murder. Police said all three accused have been arrested.
