Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday held a bilateral meeting ahead of the BRICS summit held in the Russian city of Kazan. Both the leaders especially underlined the warm relations between India and Russia. Prime Minister Modi said that his second visit in three months reflects close coordination and deep friendship. The two leaders reviewed the entire spectrum of India-Russia relations with a special focus on progress on the decisions taken during their last meeting in Moscow in July 2024. They also shared perspectives on regional and global issues, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson said that on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS summit, Prime Minister Modi praised the Russian chairmanship of the organization and extended best wishes for the success of the summit.

Expressing happiness over the venue of the meeting, he said that India has deep and historical relations with this city. The opening of India's new Consulate General in Kazan will further strengthen relations with Russia.
