Ranchi, September 18 (HS). Assam Chief Minister and co-in-charge of Jharkhand assembly elections Himanta Biswa Sarma met Home Minister Amit Shah with a delegation of Ho community two days ago. Those who met included General Secretary of Adivasi Ho Samaj Yuva Mahasabha Gabbar Singh Hembram, former MP Geeta Koda and others. The delegation also submitted a memorandum.
Biswa Sarma said that the families of the tribal “Ho” community living in Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Assam had been demanding for many years that the “Ho” language (Warang Kshiti script) be included in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. In this context, I met Home Minister Amit Shah with a delegation of the tribal “Ho” Samaj Yuva Mahasabha and the All India Ho Language Action Committee.
He said that the Home Minister listened to the delegation and assured that the Government of India will consider their demand. He also said that the Modi government is committed to preserving the culture of every society of the country. He said that 18 lakh people speak Ho language in Jharkhand, 14 lakh in Orissa, 7 lakh in Assam, 50 thousand in Chhattisgarh and about 1 lakh people speak Ho language in other places.
He said that Ho language has its own Warang Chiti script and its own dictionary. Research in Ho language has been published in history, social sciences etc. Its literature has also been published in Devanagari, Oriya, Bengali and Roman scripts. In Jharkhand state, Ho language is taught from primary to university. It is taught in Kolhan, Ranchi and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University.
He said that this language is used by people of both tribal and non-tribal communities. Ho language has been included in the second official language in Jharkhand. Appointments have also been made on the basis of this language. He told that scholars of Ho language have also been awarded the Padma Shri. The Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to the all-round development of the tribal society and the protection of their culture.
He said that just as the BJP government made the 102nd amendment in the Constitution to include Santhali and Bodo languages in the 8th Schedule, in the same way, the government will take necessary action in the coming days to include Ho language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.
