Bhopal, 21 August (HS). Dalit organizations have called for a Bharat Bandh on Wednesday against the High Court's decision on the creamy layer in SC-ST reservation. This bandh is having a mixed effect in Madhya Pradesh. It has no effect on life in Indore and the capital Bhopal and shops are open in these two big cities like on normal days. Rallies and demonstrations were organised in some cities of the state, but the situation is normal everywhere.

In the capital Bhopal, BSP workers on Wednesday garlanded the statue of Dr. Ambedkar located at Board Office Square in MP Nagar and raised slogans. State in-charge Jiyalal Ahirwar said that we are doing a peaceful bandh. The intention is not to harass any poor by closing shops. We have protested against the decision of the Supreme Court by submitting a memorandum against the quota in reservation. On the other hand, the main markets in Indore are open. However, Bhim Army workers have demonstrated here. Bhim Army workers reached the Collector's office to demonstrate and sat on a dharna by sitting on the road outside the Collector's office. Police is deployed at major places to maintain law and order in Indore.

Here, during the Bharat Bandh in Ujjain, a scuffle broke out between the members of Dalit organisations and a shopkeeper. In the Tower Chowk area, when the protesters asked to close the shop, the shopkeeper refused. On this, the bandh supporters started pushing the shop counter. The shopkeeper objected. An argument began between the two. People present on the spot intervened and pacified the matter. Meanwhile, the markets in Pandhurna and Mandla are completely closed. Bandh supporters took out a rally in Satna-Bhind. Private schools are closed in Gwalior, while schools are open in many districts including Bhopal-Indore and Ujjain. Shops are also opening. The bandh seems to be ineffective in Khandwa. The market here has completely opened.

Holiday has been declared in many schools in Gwalior due to Bharat Bandh. Section 144 orders were issued in the district from Tuesday night itself. There is no news of any untoward incident in the city at present. Adequate security forces have been deployed in the city for security arrangements. In Bhind, along with Bhim Army, Bahujan Samaj Party and Samajwadi Party workers took out a rally and supported Bharat Bandh. Workers of Jai Adivasi Yuva Shakti Sangathan i.e. JAYS took out a rally in support of Bharat Bandh in the city and expressed their protest. In Morena, a memorandum regarding demands was submitted to Collector Ankit Asthana under the leadership of Bahujan Samaj Party.

At the same time, the effect of Bharat Bandh is visible in Betul. Only a few shops are open here. Bhim Army workers are protesting. It is written on the placard in the hands of the workers – Cancel the Supreme Court's decision of August 1, 2024. Similarly, in Shajapur, SC-ST organizations took out a rally and protested against the Supreme Court's decision. The workers reached the market and appealed to close the shops with folded hands.
