Mirzapur’s carpet business will get global recognition, 10 carpet traders from the district will participate in the International Trade Show.


Mirzapur. Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show (UPITS) is being organized in Noida from September 25 by the Yogi government with the aim of promoting industry and trade. This initiative of the state government will prove to be a milestone in giving the carpet industry of Mirzapur a new identity in the global market. In this trade show, 10 carpet traders and 2 confectionary traders from the district will participate and showcase their products. In this event, businessmen from India and abroad and importers from 86 countries will get an opportunity to closely see the attractive carpets, rugs and other handicraft products manufactured in Mirzapur. This will provide a platform to local carpet traders to connect with new markets and foreign buyers.

Deputy Commissioner of District Industry Promotion and Entrepreneurship Development Center Sandeep Kumar said that the International Trade Show will play an important role in giving a new flight to the carpet industry of Mirzapur. The changing scenario of international business amidst the ongoing tensions in the Middle East will provide an opportunity to local carpet traders to establish contacts with new foreign buyers and businessmen. This is likely to open new avenues of export. He informed that in the trade show, M/s Ramashankar Carpet, M/s Shabnur Carpet, M/s Istekhar Carpet and M/s Brijesh Dari and Carpet will display their products in Hall No. 9. Whereas M/s Pari Handicraft, M/s RS Handicraft, M/s Nandini Handicraft and M/s Champion Traders will exhibit their products in Hall No. 10. M/s One Palace of Rugs will display their products in Hall No. 14 and M/s Artline Creation will display their products in Hall No. 15.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme of the state government has proved to be a ‘lifesaver’ for the carpet industry of Mirzapur. The carpet business has been encouraged by the facilities and financial assistance provided through ODOP. The increase in business has also had a positive impact on the economic condition of carpet weavers. With the increase in employment opportunities at the local level, families involved in traditional carpet manufacturing are also getting its benefits.

Foreign guests will taste Lal Peda and Balushahi

He said that under One District, One Cuisine (ODOC), famous local products like Lal Peda and Balushahi of Mirzapur will also get a global platform in the International Trade Show. Om Mishthan Bhandar and Gurukripa Sweets will display their products in Hall No. 16. Foreign guests attending the trade show will also be able to taste the famous Lal Peda and Balushahi of Mirzapur. The Deputy Commissioner said that the presentation of traditional sweets of Mirzapur along with local carpets at the international level is expected to provide a wider market to the products of the district. Efforts are being made to spread the identity of Mirzapur’s handicrafts and food products to the global level through international trade shows. With this, local businessmen, weavers and artisans will get new customers and markets and the traditional art and products of the district will get global recognition.
