Ministry of Consumer Affairs Recruitment 2026: Great opportunity for government service for youth in Consumer Ministry, monthly salary up to ₹ 70,000


Department of Consumer Affairs (DoCA) under the ‘Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution’, Government of India has released the official notification of direct recruitment to various specialist posts for qualified, energetic and talented youth. The ministry is going to fill the posts of Young Professionals and Legal/Technical Consultants through this recruitment drive. Selected candidates will be provided Consolidated Monthly Remuneration up to Rs 70,000 per month. As per the detailed advertisement released by the Ministry, these posts will be filled on contractual basis for initial period of 1 year, which can be extended for further 3 years depending on the excellent performance of the candidate and administrative requirements of the Ministry.

The classification of posts and the pay scale payable are as follows:

  • Young Professional – General/Legal/IT: Selected candidates will be given a fixed honorarium ranging from ₹60,000 to ₹70,000 per month.

  • Consultant/Research Associate: A monthly remuneration of ₹70,000 or more will be determined based on experience and expertise.

  • extra features: Being a contractual post, Dearness Allowance (DA) or House Rent Allowance (HRA) will not be payable separately like regular government employees, but this consolidated package of ₹ 70,000 will be transferred directly to the bank account as per tax rules. Apart from this, employees will get full benefit of casual leave and government holidays in the year as per rules.

Post Graduate and professional degree holders of various disciplines have been invited for appointment to these posts in the Consumer Ministry:

  • Legal Specialist (Legal Stream): LLB (LL.B) or LLM (LL.M) degree with minimum 60% marks from any recognized university. Preference will be given to lawyers or researchers having knowledge of legal matters under Consumer Protection Act, 2019, National Consumer Commission (NCDRC) and State Commissions. Must have at least 1 to 2 years of advocacy or legal research experience in the relevant field.

  • Public Policy and Economics (Economics/Policy Stream): Master’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Public Policy, Commerce, or Business Administration (MBA). At least 1 year of research or project management experience is mandatory.

  • Data Analytics and IT (IT / Data Analytics): BE/B.Tech (Computer Science/IT) or MCA degree holders with understanding of Big Data, e-commerce algorithms, National Consumer Helpline (NCH) database and cyber compliance.

The Ministry has set practical and transparent age limits for these posts:

The youth selected on this post will get the opportunity to work at the center of the country’s consumer protection policy. Currently, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) is taking large-scale legal and administrative action against misleading advertisements on e-commerce platforms, high-handedness of cab aggregators, online ‘dark patterns’, false claims by coaching institutes and fake hallmarking.

The main tasks of the selected Young Professionals will include:

  • Analysis of complaints: Analyzing data of millions of complaints received on National Consumer Helpline (NCH 1915) and identifying anti-consumer companies.

  • Policy Drafting: Assisting senior officials in drafting new consumer protection rules, e-commerce guidelines and new regulations to combat greenwashing.

  • Management of Legal Affairs: Preparing briefs and counter-affidavits for Ministry related cases in Supreme Court, High Courts and NCDRC.
