Umaria, 18 October (Hindustan Reporter). A mini factory for manufacturing valuable teak and sal furniture was being run illegally in village Belmana under Chandia range of Umaria district. The informer informed the forest department. On which Chandia Ranger Ravi Pandey immediately informed the higher officials and got a search warrant issued and raided with his team. The entire work was done so secretly that no one had a clue and huge quantities of illegal teak and sal wood and half-made furniture, tools, wood and forest produce were seized.
Chandia Ranger Ravi Pandey said that we got information that in the house of Fatte Sahu's father Jagai Sahu in village Belmana, illegal furniture made of teak and sal wood is being made and traded. Then we informed the higher authorities and got a search warrant issued and raided with our team and in the presence of 5 respected villagers and found about 1.100 cubic meters of illegal teak and sal wood and mini tools like saw, electric saw, small saw, basula. All the tools found, rinda etc. were seized and action is being taken against the accused under the section of Indian Forest Act 1927, forest crime case number 7784/03 has been registered and investigation is being done.
It is worth noting that on one hand the government is continuously working towards the protection of forests and plantation, on the other hand the forest mafia is not lagging behind in illegal felling of forests, strict action should be taken against such accused so that they do not harm the environment.
