People of Punjab need to be careful while consuming milk and desi ghee. Actually, the milk and desi ghee sold openly in shops in Punjab is not pure. This big revelation has come from the milk samples taken by the Punjab government. In the investigation, 21 percent of desi ghee and 13.6 percent of milk samples did not meet the standards in 2023-24.
According to the Punjab Food and Drug Administration, 646 milk samples were taken in the year 2023 and 2024. Out of these, 88 did not meet the standards. 26 percent of the samples of bagasse failed. In the last three years, 20988 milk samples have been taken. Out of these, 3712 samples were found to be wrong. A total of 6041 milk samples were taken in the year 2023-24. Out of these, 929 samples failed.
In the year 2023-24, the Punjab government filed 1577 civil cases. Criminal action has been taken in 76 of these cases. In the last three years, criminal action has been taken against the owners of 194 failed samples. Some failed samples were found to be adulterated with water or milk powder or urea etc.
To ensure that people of Punjab get pure milk and food items, three to four samples are taken daily. Not only this, samples of pulses and other items are also taken by the health department. Along with this, camps are also organised by the dairy department through mobile vans for awareness. People will not have to pay anything for these samples. The effort behind this is to make people aware about their food habits.
