Mumbai: The prime accused in the Worli hit and run case, Mihir Shah, has been given 14 days judicial custody by the Shivadi Magistrate Court. Mihir Shah is the son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah from Palghar.
The police argued for extending Mihir's police custody that the car number has not been found yet. The police said that the search for him is on. Also, the reason why the accused cut his hair and beard in the car is not yet known. Who helped the accused is yet to be investigated.
During the hearing, the police told the court that the car Mihir was driving was a BMW car which was not properly insured and did not have a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate. Since the windshield was black, relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act have been invoked.
The defence had requested that Mihir be sent to judicial custody as the police recorded statements of the family and the driver for seven days which matched. The remand application said they recovered clothes, 27 statements and a can of beer. The police want to find the number plate but they say the front number plate is missing, they only have the vehicle number.
On July 7, at 5.30 am, Mihir Shah hit Pradeep Nakhwa and Kaveri Nakhwa, who were riding a scooter, with his BMW car in Worli. Both were fish sellers in Worli, when the accident happened. Pradeep was hit by the car while Kaveri was stuck in the bonnet and dragged for a kilometre and a half. Shah, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, swapped seats with the driver Rajrishi Bidawat and pulled Kaveri out of the car and once again climbed over her while reversing the car. Kaveri died.
