Mumbai: The prime accused in the Worli hit and run case, Mihir Shah, has been given police custody till July 16 by the Shivadi Magistrate Court. The police said that the number plate of the car is missing, so the search is on. The police also told the court that the accused cut his hair and beard in the car to hide his identity. Since it is not yet investigated who helped the accused, the police asked the court for further custody of the accused.
Police's argument in court
It also did not provide information as to where the number plate was disposed of after committing the crime and who helped him escape. Police said it is also necessary to investigate who owns the car and who allowed it to be used. Investigation revealed that the accused's father had tried to hide the car which was the main evidence of the accident. The accused can go to any extent. The accused is trying to gain sympathy in the court by saying whether he has a driving license or not, this too is yet to be investigated, police strongly argued for custody.
Arguments put forward by the defence
On the other hand, the defence argued that one of the accused was to appear in court on Tuesday. The accused is cooperating in the investigation. 95 per cent of the information and evidence has been received by the police in the investigation, we have not damaged any evidence. Blood samples of the accused have been taken. Mihir and the car driver have been questioned face to face. His phone has also been seized. He was taken to the spot and told the entire incident. The driver and Mihir got the same answer. Therefore, it was argued that there was no compelling reason to keep Mihir in custody.
Police allege that Mihir Shah was driving under the influence of alcohol and hit and killed a 45-year-old woman named Kaveri near Astrea Mall in Worli. The accused fled after the accident and two days later the police arrested Mahir, who had reached Virar from Shahpur.
Where did Mihir go after the accident?
After the incident, the son of Rajesh Shah, the district president of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's party Shiv Sena in Palghar, absconded. After the accident, he had first made 40 calls to his girlfriend. After this, the car was abandoned near Bandra Kalanagar and the number plate was removed. He went to his girlfriend's house in Goregam by auto rickshaw. After resting here for two hours, the girlfriend informed Mihir's sister about the incident, his sister came to Goregaon and took him to her house in Borivali. From here Shah's mother Meena and two sisters Pooja and Kinjal and friend Avdeep left for a resort in Shahpur. Here he was staying hiding from the police.
Game is over when friend turns on phone for 15 minutes
On Monday night, Shah left for his family home in Virar and the next morning after his friend Avdeep switched on his phone for 15 minutes, his location was traced and Shah was arrested. His mother, two sisters and a friend were also detained along with him. The police may also question Mihir's girlfriend as they need to know what information he shared with her about the accident. It will also be known whether Mihir was drunk or not when he met and talked to his girlfriend.
What happened?
On July 7, at 5.30 am, Mihir Shah hit Pradeep Nakhwa and Kaveri Nakhwa, who were riding a scooter, with his BMW car in Worli. Both were fish sellers in Worli, when the accident happened. Pradeep was hit by the car while Kaveri was stuck in the bonnet and dragged for a kilometre and a half. Shah, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, swapped seats with the driver Rajrishi Bidawat and pulled Kaveri out of the car and once again climbed over her while reversing the car. Kaveri died.
