California: Stanford University alumni Larry Page and Sergey Brin launched the web-based search engine Google in 1998 in California. Soon this search engine became everyone's favorite. For nearly 26 years, Google has been the first choice of users for any kind of search on the Internet. Now to compete with Google, Microsoft-backed tech giant OpenAI is going to launch AI search tool SearchGPT. A prototype is being tested before its rollout.

SearchGPT starts with a large textbox that asks users, 'What are you looking for?' When you answer it, it understands what you are looking for and presents you with a summary of it instead of giving you a simple list like Google. For example, searching about a music festival gives a brief description with a link to the event. After this answer, you can also ask follow-up questions or click on the sidebar to open related links. Since it is developed on the model of conversation with a common man, it is easy to get the required results. Similar to image search in Google, SearchGPT also provides the facility to get answers through visuals. According to OpenAI, the new product is especially useful for specific information on current events, new developments, or questions that ChatGPT does not have information about. Unlike traditional search engines, which often require multiple attempts to find specific information. SearchGPT aims to deliver search answers in a conversational form. It is user friendly as well as provides more accurate search term information. The company has entered into content license agreements with many publishers. This will make it easier for users to get real time news.

– Google's market share saw a marginal decline in June

Alphabet's shares fell 3 percent after the announcement of OpenAI. On the other hand, its market share also declined. Google Search's market share in June 2024 was 91.1 percent. Which was 92.6 percent a year ago. According to the web analytics firm, Microsoft benefited greatly from adopting OpenAI's technology in its Bing search engine.

– Many search engines failed in front of Google

This is not the first time that a new search engine has been launched against the search giant Google. AskJives, which was later branded as Ask.com, was launched in 2000. Known for its question-answer format, Ask.com was initially well received. But, it could not stand up to Google's advanced algorithm. Then, in 2010, Quill was founded by former Google engineers. But, they could not get the expected results.

– Google's AI experiment fails

Google was the first to launch a chatbot named Bard in the AI race. Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced Bard on February 6, 2023 to compete with ChatGPT. It was made available to users on March 21, 2023. But, many flaws were found in Google's generative AI. After which Google introduced it with a new color named Gemini. Some time ago, its image generation tool created controversy.

– Waiting List Process of SearchGPT

OpenAI is building SearchGPT on the GPT-4 AI model. Currently, its prototype is undergoing extensive testing. The company has created a waitlist for users who want to join the test. A ChatGPT account is required to join this list. After logging in, the black color will turn gray as soon as you click on Join Waitlist. Along with this, there will be a check mark, which will say, 'You are on the waitlist.' Which the company will process in no time.
