Messi scored 109th goal, Argentina beat Canada 2-0 in the final

FIFA World Cup champion captain Lionel Messi scored the 109th international goal of his career and the first goal of the current tournament as defending champions Argentina beat Canada 2-0 to enter the final of the Copa America Cup football tournament.

Julian Alvarez scored the first goal for Argentina in the 22nd minute. Messi increased the lead to 2-0 by deflecting Enzo Fernandez's shot into the goal post in the 51st minute. Goalkeeper Maxim was in front of Messi but failed to stop the star footballer's shot. Messi has scored 28 goals in his last 25 matches for Argentina. He has scored 14 goals in the Copa America Cup so far, which is three goals less than the record. Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo has scored more goals than Messi in international football, who has scored 130 goals so far. Argentina's victory on Independence Day extended their unbeaten streak to 10 matches. Argentina will try to win a record 16th Copa America Cup against the winner of the other semi-final between Uruguay and Colombia in Sunday's final.

Iran's El Dei holds the record for most goals in international football, scoring 108 or 109 goals between 1993 and 2006. His goal against Ecuador in 2000 has become controversial as the match's international status has been disputed.
