Mental health of children is deteriorating due to high expectations from parents: Ashok Rai

Experts gathered in the inaugural session of the two-day mental health festival 'Balance with In' organized from Monday at the Psychology Department of DAV PG College, Ausanganj Navapura. On the first day, under the aegis of the student forum Psychogenesis, issues related to mental health among children and adolescents were discussed. Students showed seriousness on the subject in the symposium and rangoli competition. Chief guest, Dr. Ashok Rai, Director of District Mental Hospital, Pandeypur said that today the problem of mental health is increasing more in children and teenagers. According to WHO report, 12 percent of children up to 18 years of age suffer from mental health.

He said that the main reason for poor mental health in children is parents' and society's expectation of the best from them. We have to take care not to put unnecessary pressure on children. Respect their wishes also. He said that the government will have to pay special attention to health facilities, currently there are only 3 mental hospitals in the state, which is a matter of concern.

College manager Ajit Kumar Singh Yadav said that mental health is a burning issue in the current times. Not only people of certain age groups are suffering from this, but this problem is also seen in children, youth and elderly people. He said that family and your environment can prove to be very helpful in maintaining better mental health.

He said that in case of any problem, one should immediately contact a psychiatrist or psychologist without any hesitation.
