Universities of Science and Technology in Meghalaya: Assam Chief Minister Himmat Biswa Sarma has once again targeted Meghalaya's 'University of Science and Technology'. CM Sarma has said that the structure of the university building looks like 'Mecca'. Mecca is one of the holiest places in Islam. The Assam CM said that this educational institution of Meghalaya is ruining education and its domed doors are a symbol of 'jihad'. The CM has also accused the university of flood jihad.
Himanta Biswa Sarma blamed the construction of the university for the flash floods in Guwahati earlier this month. The university, located in Meghalaya's Ri-Bhoi district, cut down hills facing the forest, leading to flash floods. Located in Meghalaya, the university is run by a foundation started by a Bengali Muslim named Mahbubul Haque. Mahbubul Haque is the chancellor of the 'University of Science and Technology'.
I feel ashamed to go to university
Referring to the three domes above the main gate of the university, Sarma claimed that it resembles Mecca and Medina. “It is a shame to go there. You have to go down to Mecca. There should also be a community prayer hall. Make Mecca-Medina, church, all three. There is only Mecca there. Let it be a community prayer hall. Let it be a church. We will walk under all three, why should we walk under one.”
Meghalaya mountains blamed for the floods
Himanta Sarma said the university system was established in the 'birth of jihad'. “Everyone criticised me when I spoke about the Meghalaya University of Science and Technology, but before that Tarun Gogoi had said that floods are the main reason for floods in Guwahati.” Sarma drew parallels between his statements and those of former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi. Gogoi had earlier blamed Jorabat for the frequent floods in Guwahati.
The Assam CM claimed that the mountains were cut not towards Meghalaya but towards Guwahati. 'Why were the mountains cut towards Guwahati and not towards Meghalaya? Is this not flood jihad?' He was talking about the huge hills of Meghalaya.
