‘Mega-battle’ within Punjab Congress: Crippled by internal rebellion—will the BJP triumph in 2027

At present, the biggest earthquake in the politics of Punjab is happening within the Congress. The recent organizational reshuffle by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has added fuel to the smoldering fire of the Punjab Congress. The high command kept Amarinder Singh Raja Wading as the state president and appointed former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi only as the chairman of the campaign committee. After this decision, the game of checkmate has started in Punjab and the Channi faction has opened its front straight to Delhi Darbar.

Channi vs Raja Wadding: ‘Show of strength’ in Morinda and the race to Delhi

The Congress high command had thought that they would establish peace by distributing the cream of posts among all the factions, but the move backfired. A large meeting of Charanjit Singh Channi’s supporters was held at his Morinda residence, which is being considered as a direct show of strength against Raja Wadding and Pratap Singh Bajwa. Channi supporters are now openly demanding to declare him the next main face of Punjab. The matter did not stop here; Many leaders of the Channi group have marched to Delhi over this dissatisfaction, which clearly shows that the cracks within the party have now turned into abysses. Along with this, Manish Tiwari not getting a place in any committee and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa’s meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah has further deepened this political suspense.

‘Lottery’ for BJP: Will lotus bloom in Punjab?

Seeing this terrible factionalism of the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seems very upset. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini took a direct dig at the visits to Jalandhar and Pathankot and said that internal strife is in the DNA of Congress. BJP has made it clear that it will not forge an alliance with any regional party (like Shiromani Akali Dal) in the 2027 assembly elections, but will go directly among the people. There cannot be a better opportunity than this for BJP to win over the urban and Dalit voters in Punjab who are angry with both Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). This disintegration of Congress is directly giving space to BJP to emerge as a strong alternative in the state.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s eyes: morale boosted by victory in Municipal Corporation elections

On the other hand, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party is keeping a close eye on this entire drama. In the recently held Punjab Municipal Corporation (Civic Body) elections, AAP has won a bumper victory, due to which the morale of Bhagwant Mann government is high. However, Congress is currently accusing the AAP government of secretly making a ‘deal’ with the BJP. Especially after the decision to implement the Centre’s ‘Developed India Guarantee’ (VB-G RAM G) scheme in Punjab, Raja Wadding has made sharp attacks on CM Mann. But the truth is that as long as the main opposition party i.e. Congress keeps fighting among itself, it will be impossible for it to take advantage of the anti-incumbency wave.

Now it remains to be seen how Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge calm this discord in Delhi, or else history will repeat itself and like in 2022, in 2027 too, Congress will remain far away from power in Punjab due to its own mistakes.
