Meeting held for business development and transport solutions

Guwahati, July 25 (HS). As a part of the initiatives taken by Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to provide further boost to the local economy, meetings and interaction sessions are held from time to time with traders and other business communities. NFR has set up Business Development Units (BDUs) at all five divisions and Zonal Headquarters level to increase the volume of freight transport. These Business Development Units (BDUs) continuously interact with the trade and industry people in their respective areas to explore new modes of transport for movement by train. Railway is a faster and cheaper mode of transport as compared to road, this will boost the local economy by opening up large markets across the country.

NFR CPRO Sabyasachi Dey today informed that in this regard, Divisional Railway Manager along with senior officials of Lumding Division held a meeting with traders at Lumding on July 24. 33 traders attended the meeting and discussed various issues like shortage of trucks, availability of labour, placement of goods laden railway rakes, condition of goods yard and matters related to levy of wharfage charges and demurrage charges for delay in clearance of goods wagons.

In the meeting, NFR officials apprised the traders about the various activities and facilities being provided to improve the local economy by providing a cheaper mode of transport through railways. Railway is also the most environment friendly mode of transport. During the meeting, the possibility and benefits of handling goods transport, automobile transport and transportation of other goods were discussed in detail. It is also pertinent to mention here that due to the initiative of Business Development Unit (BDU), recently, for the first time, 20 wagons of bamboo were transported by Tinsukia Division of NFR from Dhemaji in Assam to Amalai in Madhya Pradesh.

It is noteworthy that NFR is making all possible efforts to enhance ease of doing business and provide better facilities to its customers and various stakeholders especially traders for the benefit of the local economy.
